Inktober 2016 Highlights

Hey all! This was my first year participating in Inktober, and it was a blast! I felt like I learned a lot, especially when forcing myself to use traditional tools rather than doing everything digitally. My sketchbook is huge, so most of these got cut off a bit, unfortunately.

The first page is from day 23, where I had done a lot of fun little sketches of Boston Terriers! It was refreshing to draw directly from photos, and I'm pleased with the variety of poses. I used pencil, gel pen, and copics.

Second, from day 22, I used sharpie, gel pen, and watercolor to create a fun little piece of a Lunwere. This was my favorite Monster from Monster Ranch Online, a reaaaalllyy old MMORPG I used to play on in 2009-2010-ish. It's also where my username came from, so this was a really exciting throwback piece!

Next, I used a technical pen and watercolor to design four-legged birds. The flamingo was from day 19, and the rooster from day 18. These were probably the two pieces that taught me how to use a brush properly, and I'm very happy with how vibrant they are!

For day 26, I did a watercolor and technical pen painting of Valfalk/Barufaruku, the new flagship monster from Monster Hunter XX. I am absolutely in love with this thing's design HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE A ROCKET DRAGON LMFAO, so I had to paint that thing! I worked on my layering with watercolor on this one, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Lastly, I drew a Nargacuga for day 29! I simply used blue lead and a technical pen, and this was sort of a redemption for myself, as I had drawn a Nargacuga earlier on, but really disliked the result. </3

Whoo! That was a lot to type, but I hope everyone enjoys these! I would definitely recommend Inktober (or any kind of thirty-day challenge) to anyone! This was a huuuge learning experience for me, and I really got familiar with watercolors and technical pens. For those of you who did participate, how did it go for you?
